Preliminary Round (Master Speakers @ United Square)

10am - 9pm (Any 1-hour slot)
Prepare to tell a 2-min story based on any of the topics in your respective category. Grand Finalists will be chosen from the pool of Preliminary Round contestants. Preliminary Round contestants will be given feedback on their stories & delivery.

Preliminary Round (2 - 5 Sep)

Come prepared with your 2-minute speech to present in front of our Master Speakers Coach. He will give you some feedback on your story and delivery. This will be a great opportunity to train your nerves in front of a smaller crowd before you take to the grand stage on 7 Sep (should you qualify as a Grand Finalist).

Grand Finalists will be announced on 5 Sep and notified via WhatsApp and Email.

Judging Criteria

Your Storytelling will be judged based on:

  • Clarity: Can the audience follow your story easily? Are your words clear and your pacing appropriate?
  • Engagement: Are you keeping your audience captivated from start to finish? Does your story hold their attention?
  • Expression: How well do you use your voice, facial expressions and body, to bring the story to life? Are your emotions and actions enhancing the narrative?
  • Connection: Do you create a connection with your audience? Can they relate to the emotions or themes in your story?

Mrs Shum is a caring teacher who is concerned about her students and their well-being. She has helped me improve in my English and has always been very caring towards me. She stresses on our mental health and has encouraged us a lot. Her teaching is amazing and i love how she shares interesting facts related to the topic we were studying and she exposed us to the basics of general paper too. To add, Mrs Shum gives specific feedback on our work which allowed us to know what we can improve on. The MS comprehension worksheets were also of great help as they allow me to know how to answer certain questions in a straightforward manner. Mrs Shum marks quite strictly which also further prepared me well for the O-levels where the marking is usually more lenient. As a result, I learnt how to do better and could gauge where i stand. There are 3 categories for the contest:

Category 1 (K1 to P2)

Category 2 (P3 to P5)

Category 3 (P6 to S4)

What type of stories can a student deliver?

You may choose any topic from the list of story topics above. Speak and have fun!

When will the Preliminary Round be held?

Date: 2 - 5 Sep 2024
Venue: Master Speakers Novena (101 Thomson Rd, #04-20/22 United Square Shopping Mall, Singapore 307591)

Please book a one-hour slot here. Each one-hour slot accommodates a maximum of 8 participants. Please remember to arrive on time for your chosen slot!

When will the Grand Finalists be announced?

Grand Finalists will be announced on 5 Sep and notified via WhatsApp and Email. More details regarding the reporting time for the Grand Finals on 7 Sep will be provided at a later time.

What is the dress code for this Storytelling Contest?

✅ Proper Attire: Dress, shirt, polo tee, long pants/jeans, covered shoes

❎ Improper Attire: Shorts, Bermudas, skimpy clothing, sandals, slippers / flip flops

When will the complimentary webinar on "Becoming an effective student public speaker & masterful communicator" be held?

The webinar will be held after the contest, in mid-Sep 2024. Our Master Speakers Master Coach will cover tips on Becoming an Eloquent & Effective Student Speaker. We'll reach out to you post-contest to provide more details on the complimentary webinar!
