Curriculum Updates at the Primary Level
At the Primary level, the focus remains on providing a strong foundation while keeping pace with MOE’s syllabus updates, and incorporating trending examination questions. Here’s what’s new in the MOE syllabus:
PSLE English Changes
The PSLE English exam is evolving, and so is our preparation for it:
- Writing: Marks for Situational Writing and Continuous Writing have been slightly reduced. Students will now need to inject their own ideas into Situational Writing tasks, a skill we will hone through guided practice.
- Reading & Oral: The oral component has an increased weightage, with Reading Aloud and Stimulus-Based Conversation (SBC) taking center stage. We’ll help students adapt to new formats, including real-life photo stimuli for SBC and reading preambles that set context and purpose.
- Comprehension & Editing: Students will now encounter two texts in the Visual Text Comprehension component, including one visual-text hybrid and one text-only passage. We’ll sharpen their skills to tackle these with confidence.
P5 Mathematics
The revamped MOE syllabus offers a more streamlined focus, shifting “Average” and “Ratio” to P6. This gives students the space to build a strong foundation in essential topics like percentage and rate. We’ll ensure that students stay ahead while reinforcing their understanding through our foundation-building exercises.
P5 Science
Changes in the MOE syllabus simplify the topic of Cells by integrating it into Reproduction in Animals and Plants. We’ll also place greater emphasis on higher-order thinking and experimental skills to prepare students for Science mastery.
P2 Chinese
MOE curriculum tweaks include adjustments to the vocabulary list and a greater emphasis on incorporating technology in lessons. Animated videos, online games, and even augmented reality will make language learning come alive. Students will also have more opportunities to use their mother tongue in everyday contexts, fostering cross-cultural literacy and confidence. This ties in seamlessly to our MS Discovery Zone programme, where students bring Chinese language and culture to life through story-telling, role-play, and creative exploration.
Beyond our Discovery Zone and Scaffolding at the Primary level, we’re also specifically addressing the unique challenges faced by older students, as they transition to Secondary level.
Curriculum Updates at the Secondary Level
Secondary English
Listening comprehension can be daunting for students, who may struggle with unfamiliar accents and lack confidence in note-taking. To bridge this gap, we’re introducing additional practice tailored to help students refine their listening and note-taking skills.
Writing tasks can also feel overwhelming without proper guidance. To support students, we’re incorporating more sample model texts and bite-sized writing tasks. These scaffolded exercises focus on specific skills and techniques, empowering students to tackle writing assignments with greater confidence.
Secondary Chinese
Changes in the O-Level syllabus for Higher Chinese language have introduced new challenges, particularly for functional writing (实用文). We are revising certain functional writing components (实用文) to align with the new question formats introduced in the O-Level examinations.
Additionally, we are introducing exercises focusing on 词语替换 (vocabulary replacement) for Chinese language, which will help students adapt to the revised question formats while strengthening their language proficiency.
Secondary Science
The complexity of higher-order questions and practical exams can leave students feeling unprepared. To address this, we’ve introduced more topical revision sessions to consolidate key concepts. We’re also strengthening students’ Science Practical skills through Practical revision for Upper Secondary students, which provide targeted tips and exercises, ensuring they approach these tasks with confidence and competence.
Secondary Mathematics
Many students struggle with applying mathematical concepts to real-world contexts, a key focus of the Math syllabus. To help, we’re embedding more problems in real-world context into our practice papers, with a focus on our upper secondary students, thereby ensuring students build the skills and confidence needed to tackle these challenges head-on.
